The Sound
The transition from four members to a traditional power trio lineup has resulted in a more focused sound that recalls vintage Sabbath while maintaining the shoegaze and psychedelic sonic qualities that longtime listeners will expect.
Randall has moved from guitar to bass (he has now played every instrument in the band at some point). The new lineup leaves a bit more space for Lance’s vocals & guitar and the drums are huge as usual. There are very few overdubs or other studio tricks on this record. We tracked the whole thing in just a few days and the result is very close to what a live Hypatia Lake show sounds like. It’s our best record yet and we hope you enjoy it!
As you may know, each of our albums presents a different story set in the town of Hypatia Lake. For Ouroboros, our fourth album, we continue with some of the darker themes from the last record.
The Story
Like many of you, the impact of being raised in this particular point in space and time, everything feels like its hanging on the precipice of some significant cosmic change. With all the talk of 2012, impending solar spikes, electromagnetic ascension or just plain catastrophe, I felt inspired to leap into my own imagination and therefore created my own Apocalypse.
On the last album, “Angels and Demons, Space and Time”, one of the characters in Hypatia Lake (Rose Marie), just so happened to be, in reality, not a mere mortal but an Interdimensional Space Queen. Actually, she was more like what the Kabbalahist’s would call the AIN SOF or Limitless Light. She was lured away from her throne by the temptation of being limited, and because of that the Multiverse started to come apart. This new album focuses on this story, how the Archangels and Keepers of the Great White Lodge are trying to find her, and then convince her to take back up her throne. In order to do this she must confront an Energy Beast that has been released as a result of her descent. It is the harbinger of the end and it’s called The Stareater.
